Update!
This November I will have a table at CTN Expo with my friend Tuna where we will be selling our books, prints and giving portfolio reviews. Please stop by and have a little chat with us :) Sign up and have breakfast with the pros, meet lots of amazing artists, attend some panels or watch Glen Keane give drawing demonstrations. Come and have fun!
I'm very happy to say that I've been accepted into the Talent Development program at Disney Feature Animation this Fall where I will be a visual development trainee!! I look forward to learning and growing as much as I can. I don't know who will be my mentor(s) yet but I am super ecstatic and can't wait to begin!
Speaking of mentors, I was fortunate enough to be mentored by Lorelay Bove through Motivarti earlier this year. My goal within the mentorship program was to build a new portfolio and to expand my knowledge on design and visual development. We worked together one on one to make the project like a class assignment where I would bring something in each week to be critiqued. I received great suggestions from Lorelay and I used them to improve my work each week. By the end of my 8 week mentorship I had a better understanding of design and portfolio layout. What made this portfolio different from all the ones I did in the past was that I chose to do my project in a medium I used a lot as a kid so that gave my book a more personal touch. Bringing something that's YOU into your portfolio will make it stand out and not look repetitive when looking at it amongst other people's portfolios. I've had positive experiences with Motivarti through their guest lecturers and classes and I'm happy to see that they've expanded their program to mentorships as well.
That's all the updates for now. Hope to see a few of you at CTN!

Klimt sketch studies
I visited the Gustav Klimt: The Magic of Line exhibition
this past weekend and it had such amazing displays
of his sketches. I brought along a pocket sketchbook
and a brush pen and did some mini studies of his figures.
My studies didn't capture the expressions he made with
just a few stroke of lines. Go check out the real thing!

Warm-Up Horses
I think I'm going to start posting some of my warm up
drawings on my blog. They will most likely be horses
since they are the most natural thing for me to draw.
They are basically walking muscle and hair extension.

Wicked (Part 4)
Here are the remaining pieces of my Wicked project that I
forgot to upload. I explored some designs for background
characters playing with shapes and silhouettes. The B&W
key scenes are basically particular moments in each of the
musical numbers with some in between key moments to
tell the story. I had so much fun on this project and even
though it's been nearly a year and a half since I've finished
it I still have a fondness for it every time that I look back on it.

Brave: A Friend for Merida
I'm excited to say that the Brave book that I worked on will be
coming out soon! It's spoiler-free so feel free to read through it as
many times as you want before seeing the movie.
It's available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Pokemon Battle Royale

I was asked to be a part of the Pokemon Battle Royale gallery show at Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis, MN. I picked Rapidash out of the 151 because I'm a horse lover and it's a pokemon I've always wanted as a kid. The gallery show opens on April 20th. If you're local to Minneapolis please check it out!

Gratuitous Victoria's Secret Model Post

The VS models are so beautiful they must not be human. Their job description must be to have wavy flowing luxurious hair and the metabolism of a hummingbird. I like watching the annual VS fashion show every year to see all the crazy impractical costumes they get to wear. And those wings! They can get pretty crazy but I like how creative and different they are every year.

Turkey Day Doodles
I'm horrible at updating my blogspot. I've been busy
with work so it's been taking up most of my time.
I can't wait to post what I've been working on when
I am allowed to :) I attended CTN again this year
and met so many wonderful talented artists.
I'm hoping to get a booth next year with a friend of mine
That'll be so exciting!
Here are a couple of gestures I did on the computer. It's
always great to warm up before drawing for work.

I would like to have better shape and silhouette like
how Alex Woo and Matt Jones draw gestures.
I'm still learning :)
On Thanksgiving I usually wake up too late to watch
the Macy's parade but I usually try to catch the
National Dog Show each year. I did a couple of
drawings of the breed as they appeared on screen
and my favorite out of the batch turned out to be
an Old English Sheepdog. They're so funny looking
with their fur in their face and adorably round head.

Character Design Blogspot Interview

I got an amazing opportunity to be interviewed by the
Character Design blogspot. I was so nervous at first because
the site is full of amazing professional artists who are milestones
ahead of me and to be featured on the same website as them is
mind blowing. I never though this opportunity would come so soon.
I am very excited to show you guys the finished interview.
You can read it here!

My Little Night Crusader
I adopted a cat from my friend recently and he is everythingI could possibly want in a cat. He's super friendly, playful,
loves to cuddle AND he's an excellent lap cat which
is very important. I love the little black mask he wears
on his face so I named him Batman which is appropriate
because he likes dark corners and cave-like places. I'm
hoping to get another cat in the future and name him Robin.
